The experiment’s subject
EPA evaluated PFAS leaching from certain fluorinated HDPE containers into stored liquids. The agency reported differences between solvents and continued migration with time in the conditions examined. Those observations are important evidence about a possible pathway, but the tested conditions belong beside the findings.
Avoid an unsupported leap
The study is not a survey of every packaged food or every container in commerce. A finding in an experimental liquid should not be reported as a measured concentration in a named consumer product unless that product was actually sampled. Nor does the study identify an illness in an individual consumer.
The useful follow-up
The next question is how the tested articles compare with a particular use: process version, storage period, liquid composition and temperature. A strong article makes that comparison explicit or states that the information is missing. This protects the significance of the experiment from being diluted by claims it was not designed to answer.
