The measurement boundary

A non-detect is a statement about a particular analysis and its ability to report a substance under specified conditions. It should be accompanied by the relevant limit and unit. Without those fields, a reader cannot tell whether two non-detect reports describe comparable analytical sensitivity.

The list of targets matters

A test usually covers a defined set of analytes. A result for that list should not become a claim about every member of the PFAS class. The EPA container-wall method is useful precisely because it specifies an analytical scope rather than relying on the broad phrase “chemical-free.”

An editorial rule for the Inhance file

When reporting a test, preserve the laboratory’s wording and distinguish detection from quantification. Ask whether the sample was a container wall, rinse or stored product. This guide does not independently reanalyze any company dataset; it sets out the information required before a strong interpretation can be made.
