Start in the material
A concentration in plastic describes the analyzed material. It does not automatically provide the amount transferred into every possible content. The packaging question therefore requires a second stage: whether and how the substance moves into a product under the relevant conditions.
Then examine transfer
EPA’s leaching work is relevant to that second stage. A migration result is still not the final measure of a person’s intake. Actual exposure depends on how the product is used and the route by which someone encounters it. These distinctions should remain visible even in a short news article.
Finally, avoid false precision
A publication should not invent an exposure estimate by combining incompatible values from different studies. A transparent account can describe a plausible pathway and identify the missing data. That is more informative than presenting a single dramatic number whose assumptions the reader cannot inspect.
