What FDA warned about
FDA reminded industry that only certain fluorinated polyethylene containers are authorized for food contact. Its August 2021 update discussed PFAS formation associated with some processes and EPA testing on containers used for a mosquito-control pesticide. That product context is important.
The qualification
The same FDA update said it had no evidence that the alternative processes discussed were used to manufacture food containers. A report should preserve that statement rather than claim the notice proved every food-contact package was contaminated. Concern about a pathway and proof about a particular food supply are different propositions.
The ongoing evidence question
FDA’s review table dated May 12, 2026 lists fluorinated HDPE under review of information. That is a dated status entry, not an endorsement of every article or a conclusion that every food use is unsafe. A reliable account tells readers exactly which statement the cited agency document supports.
