The study context
EPA reported higher total leaching for methanol than water in its container evaluation. That is a finding about the experimental conditions, not a universal conversion factor for every product. A reader needs to know which liquid contacted the container before interpreting the reported concentration.
Do not translate by analogy alone
A cosmetic, pesticide or food mixture may differ from either experimental solvent. Similarity should be demonstrated rather than assumed. An article that labels every result “what consumers swallow” erases the product-specific work needed to connect the test with a real route of exposure.
A better report format
Place the sample medium, storage period and units beside each result. Explain whether the test was a screening exercise or designed to represent an intended use. This is a practical way to make packaging coverage readable while preserving the scientific limits that matter to its interpretation.
